How it all started is a matter of religious debate, which still has not been settled without contention to this very day. What we do know is that since the beginning of history, humans have grouped together in ever larger groups for mutual cooperation and benefit and these groups have split along shared heritages and ideological lines. The progression of mergers into ever larger groups started with extended families, tribes, city-states until the human species had completely dominated its birthplace, and covered it with rival nations. Man was not satisfied and took it upon himself to dominate all the planets in space. Expanding into space with new technologies and the ideals they brought with them, mankind spread and subjugated all the planets in it's path. Governments formed spanning individual planets and soon rival multi-planet alliances.

So here we are in the present where everyone considers Coruscant to be their key to power, Imperials and Rebels alike. Communication and transportation technologies have progressed so far, but there are still limits. As in the old days, an empire can grow no larger than communication range without a shared ideology to overcome this boundary. Merging multi-planet alliances and imperial factions have pushed the technology to it's limits. As a result the top 5 groups in each category of planets, production and standing armies(points) can't press forward with any more mergers without risking civil war.

To prevent loopholes, there are further limitations that a group cannot transfer more than 300,000 or more than half their planets, rounded down, to another group within any two week period. Any planets transfered cannot be transfered again for another month.

Since power is seated in Coruscant, it has become symbolic of mankind as a whole and our origins. This gives it immense psychological and religiuos value as both an icon and an ideal. So the holder of Coruscant has the key to Mankind's past and its future. Millions have lived and died for it's name. The significance of our shared birthplace is so powerful that people will unite as one, overcoming normal ideological barriers. Only the group physically possessing Coruscant can keep mankind united under it's banner. So the war for Coruscant continues with everyone desperate to possess it. The war for freedom will never end until one group can unite or subjugate all under its banner and ideals. Battle awaits you. On to Battle!
